IMB (www.imb.de) is a research institute on the campus of Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany. It is generously funded by the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation and the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Our research focuses on the biology of the cell nucleus and ranges from the molecular level to organismic, systems and computational approaches. Researchers at IMB are supported by strong core facilities that offer state-of-the-art services in bioinformatics, cytometry, genomics, histology & microscopy, proteomics, and protein production. About us
The position
The staff scientist will join an experienced team and focus their work on the purification and characterization of recombinant proteins produced in pro- and eukaryotic cells using various chromatographic methods and automated systems.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Establish purification protocols, quality control and functional assays for recombinant proteins using state-of-the-art technology
- Benchmark pro- and eukaryotic expression systems for recombinant protein production
- Consult and support researchers with project-specific protein production needs
- Handle and maintain lab equipment and chromatography systems
- Work as part of a team in a dynamic environment
Requirements
Completed doctoral studies in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field
Experience in heterologous expression and purification of proteins using Fast Protein Liquid Chromatography systems
- Experience in molecular cloning
- Familiar with using software (MS Office, electronic lab notebook, in silico DNA-editing)
- Good team player and strong English communication skills
Know-how in insect and mammalian cell culture
Experience in antigen design and antibody purification
Experience in biophysical characterization of proteins and protein-ligand interactions
Lab management skills

- Duration: The position is initially available for two years with the possibility of extension.
